Uncharted Island

I saw an amazing promo for the fourth season of LOST last night. At first, I thought it was going to be made up entirely of clips from seasons one and two, because that’s what it was in the beginning. But then they started sprinkling in some unseen clips from the upcoming season, and it ended with the flash forward clip where Jack tells Kate they have to get back to the island.

It was awesome.

I’d been doing fairly well without my LOST until last night. Now I’m having that feeling of urgency again, where I feel like I can’t wait to see the next new episode. I’m a LOST junkie. There’s nothing for it. I can’t wait for my next hit. The good news is that Christmas is next week, and I’m fairly certain that someone will give me the Season Three DVD set.

The bad news is the new night and time. LOST is moving to 9:00 ET on Thursdays, which will interfere with Scrubs. I guess that’s what VCRs are for. I wish I had DVR!

I work at home, and my mother-in-law has been taking my son two days a week so I can just sit and get stuff done, uninterrupted. But it gets awfully quiet and lonely without my active toddler boy, so I’ve taken to watching DVDs to keep me company.

I got the season one DVDs of LOST for Christmas, and I hadn’t actually even unwrapped the plastic from them yet. So I did that on Monday. I’m up to disc four now.

It’s so weird watching the earliest episodes. I remember having nightmares during the first season, but it’s just not affecting me that way this time around. I guess it takes the terror away when you know who Ethan is and what he did to Claire, you know about the smoke monster even though you don’t quite understand it, you know Danielle’s crazy but doesn’t kill any of the castaways.

And Sawyer looked awful until disc three. You know I’m a Sawyer fangirl. But his hair in the first few episodes was hideous. Once it grew out, he looked far more attractive. That’s the Sawyer I know and love.

Way back in the “Pilot” episode, Kate ends up on top of Charlie, and I wondered if Evangeline and Dominic had started to fall for each other way back then. Or if it started in that horrible scene when they cut Charlie down and Jack was beating on his chest and Kate was crying and screaming for him to stop… That was so emotional. Or if it didn’t come until much later.

There’s so much I’d forgotten. I didn’t remember any of Jack’s childhood flashbacks. I’d forgotten why Charlie said he didn’t swim, since people brought it up when he told Jack he was a swim champion so he could volunteer for the suicide mission. And Charlie has almost died so many times already, before we ever met Desmond, or even knew about the hatch!

Ah, memories.

Thanks to my husband, I am now the happy owner of Lost - The Complete First Season on DVD.  Having received Lost - The Complete Second Season as a surprise thank you gift from a friend and coworker, I now own all the LOST it’s possible to own at the present time.  Merry Christmas to me!

And with the dismal primetime lineup we’re being subjected to over this winter hiatus season - no Heroes, no LOST, no Jericho, no nothing! - I’m sure these DVDs, and others that were left under the Christmas tree, will get a lot of use.

When the mail lady dropped a package outside my door yesterday, I had no idea what it could be. It had my name on it. It was a box from Amazon. Upon opening the box, I saw the LOST Season 2 DVD set!

A friend of mine sent it as a thank you gift for my referral that got her a job. What a great gift!

Of course, with an active one-year-old keeping me busy, it’s going to be tricky to watch 1000+ minutes before Season 3 begins. (Less than two weeks now!) But I’ll do it. Since they stopped playing our reruns halfway through the summer, it’ll be good to get a refresher.

Did anyone see the sneak peek on the ABC fall drama preview? Sawyer’s in a Skinner box. Shocking! It should be interesting to see how he gets out. And did he really know that other person’s name, or was that just a nickname he gave him? Won’t be long now…
