ABC Female Cops: Ana-Lucia Cortes and Andrea Battle

By now, those of you who followed the canceled drama Day Break should have seen the finale online by now on ABC.com - but if not, this is fair warning… I will be posting an analysis soon.

But this blog entry is a comparison of two female cops who occupied the same time slot on ABC, at least briefly.  Every time I saw Hopper’s partner Andrea Battle on Day Break, I knew she reminded me of someone.  It took me an episode or two to figure it out… but it was Ana-Lucia from LOST.

Andrea from Day Break and Ana-Lucia from LOSTAside from the obvious physical differences, like Andrea’s blondeness and Ana-Lucia’s silky black hair, the two women present themselves very similarly.  It was hard to find the screencaps I wanted, especially for Andrea, but I found this decent promotional photo and a reasonably similar screencap of Ana-Lucia.

Any time either character entered a room, whether it was in the police station or another location, neither of them simply walked.  They slinked.  Or sauntered.  There was a certain swish of the hips and set of the eyebrows that implied a powerful combination of sexiness, self-confidence, and strength.  These two lady cops dominated a room with their presence.

Both Andrea and Ana-Lucia had their moral gray areas… well, maybe not so gray.  Andrea was the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation (over and over and over again…) because she was working with a drug dealer to feed her on-again-off-again ex-cop boyfriend’s habit.  Ana-Lucia killed a man in cold blood. Granted, he’d shot her and killed her unborn child - but she intentionally failed to identify him in a lineup so she could take matters into her own hands and murder him herself.

So while neither of them have made the best choices in their lives, Andrea and Ana-Lucia have certainly got Charlies Angels beaten.  If I could have any fictional law-enforcement officers on my side, these two would be right up there on my list.  Loyal to their friends and loved ones, they would definitely do what it takes.

The music clearance issues are resolved; Day Break will finally be online starting 1/29/07

Yes, it’s true.  According to a blogger on USATODAY.com, Day Break will finally be released on ABC.com by the end of the month.

January 29 is the day - Episodes 101-110 will be available for streaming.  The last three episodes?  February 5, February 11, and February 19.  Not sure why the releases are so unevenly spaced, but who cares?  We’ll finally get some closure about Detective Hopper!

Why Daybreak isn’t available on ABC.com

Matt Mitovich of TVGuide.com got the word from a rep at ABC; Daybreak is not currently available for streaming because of “unforeseen music clearance issues.” While it doesn’t seem to me to be a very good reason when I’ve been looking forward to watching the new episodes for over two weeks, at least it’s an explanation that implies they will be available once the unforeseen issues are cleared up. And this isn’t just ABC changing their mind. I hope.

Confirmation of LOST replacement Daybreak’s doom

Daybreak is definitely gone from the ABC Wednesday night lineup, but will be available for viewing online, according to TV.com.  I’ll be gushing about the online episodes as I am able to see them!
