Have you heard the news? LOST comes back on January 21, with a whopping THREE HOURS of episodes!
I’m excited. Are you?
The Oceanic 6 are returning to the base in a U.S Coast Guard C-130 plane. Karen Decker is the name of the Oceanic representative who talks to the them.
Crap. I forgot how emotional I got when I watched this the first time around. I’m all teary-eyed already. Then again, I was tearing up when we watched the beginning of Finding Nemo while waiting to get my son’s hair cut earlier today.
Who’s there to meet them? Hurley’s mom and dad, Sun’s mom and dad, Jack’s mom… and a bunch of other random people we don’t care about.
The satellite phones are only programmed to call each other, not an outside line. Did we know that before?
“Don’t bleed to death, Jack.” That’s a great line for stomping off, Juliet!
Sawyer looks so incredibly lost when he sees Jack and Kate there, with Aaron in his arms. “We lost her,” in reference to Claire, seems like it was written to intentionally mislead people during the promos, making us think that we’d get a straight answer as to whether or not Claire is alive.
Jack is so arrogant about his “responsibility.”
“Take care of the baby.” I guess that becomes a bit less temporary…
I wonder how many Google searches have been done on Membata.
Day 108 is when the Oceanic 6 supposedly left the island of Membata, not when they arrived on the other island where they were discovered by Indonesian fishermen.
Boone, Libby, and Charlie were supposedly the other three people who survived the crash and make it to Membata, but died before they could make it off. Why did they choose those three? Will we get to the answer to that later tonight?
I didn’t realize before that Kate and Aaron’s clothes matched at the initial press conference.
I love Nadia’s blue polka-dotted dress in this scene where she is reunited with Sayid. I want one! Are there any fashionable folks around who can find out who makes it or who sells it? Long shot, I know.
The popup just said that Locke got his instructions to move the island from Jacob. Er… is that implied because Christian said he could speak for Jacob? Or did we just learn that Christian is Jacob? That seems too big a reveal for a silly little popup.
I love the disdain in Ben’s voice when he tells Hurley that the crackers are 15 years old.
We were just reminded that Ben had told Alex that the Temple was the last safe place on the island. Where is the Temple? Could people survive the island being “torched” if they were there?
Charlotte doesn’t know quite what to do with Daniel taking the raft and leaving her on the island. She didn’t know about the secondary protocol until he told her. I’d be pretty scared, too.
Sun is so very pregnant, and she shose those heels to climb all of those stairs at Paik Industries? I thought she had more sense than that. Her back must be killing her!
“Two men are responsible for his death. You are one of them.” Sun is awesomely strong in that scene.
I love the bag of Mr. Cluck’s chicken in Hurley’s hand.
“Jesus Christ is not a weapon.”
Oh wow, I did not catch how they just explained how they snuck the numbers into the scene. I caught 4 fake palm trees and 8 helium balloons, but not the rest. I’ll check it out later on. Someone will get it with TiVo!
Interference is blocking the fathometer. The radio room is down, but something on the ship is broadcasting. I think I missed the technical bits the first time around.
Jack didn’t shave for his father’s wake, when he was giving the eulogy? He’s scruffy.
Claire’s mother’s name is Carole Littleton. Jack had to know by the middle of the conversation that Claire was her daughter. A pretty blonde Aussie girl would have a mom that age. Did Kate hear? The look in her eyes suggests she did.
Less than 5 minutes until the season finale… I’m getting excited…
“I do not work. for Ben.” Nince enunciation there, Michael.
Kate’s stepfather is the one who taught her how to track. It’s handy to have a military father figure when you get stuck on a mysterious island.
That’s a whole lot of Others with guns pointed at Kate and Sayid. I love how they repeatedly point out that Richard “seemingly does not age” in these popup episodes.
I hope Locke can remember all of that. Well, it can’t be the worst, because we know that Jack, Hurley, Kate, and Sayid all make it off the island, evne though we’ve got quite a tenuous captive situation going on here.
I like how Keamy doesn’t seem to think that he needs camoflauge face paint, but his team does.
Jack still has quite a store of medication left in that suitcase! I wonder if the drugs are still as effective after sitting out in the heat and direct sunlight for so long.
Vincent and Bernard have discovered the body of… is that the doctor from the Kahana? Okay, thanks for that Dan.
“We’re all gonna die.” Thanks, Hurley. LOL! They’re playing Risk. And Hurley plays like I play… Australia is definitely the key to the whole game.
1627? Is that the keycode to shut down the sonic fence?
The phone rang. Code 14J. The Others had a code for I have a gun to my head and someone’s making me turn the fence off? I guess it sounds cooler than tell my sister I love her. I guess it makes sense. After all, Ben did help orchestrate the systematic disposal of everyone in the Barracks once before.
Ben! In… the Sahara Desert. Lying on his back in a furry DHARMA jacket. Men with guns riding horses.
Wow. Ben’s a lot more badass than we thought. Concealed weapon, produced while at gunpoint, then takes out the guy on horseback with his partner’s machine gun. Just… wow.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch… Ben is chastising Locke and Sawyer for waiting to ask him about the phone.
The boat doc’s throat was slit. “When is a… relative term.” I don’t think I have that wording right. I was still typing up the bit about the phone call when Dan said it.
They’re barricading the house. Hurley has Aaron. Sawyer’s not getting in. Three Redshirts just bit the dust. Sawyer’s getting shot at while running along a white picket fence. (Don’t shoot Sawyer!)
Claire’s house just got blown up! No way… Commercial break. Claire can’t have that unceremonious of a death. Off-camera. I know something has to happen to her in order for Kate to end up raising Aaron back in the real world, but she at least deserves to die on camera.
And… here’s Ben in Tunisia. Although he’s Dean Moriarty, a preferred guest at whatever establishment this is. October 24, 2005. Is Ben like Hiro Nakamora?
Sayid was on the television. “I just want to bury my wife in peace.” So the timeline is a little less fuzzy now, but we still have more questions.
Okay, Sawyer has an injured but conscious Claire, asking for Charlie. They told Hurley not to open the door for him, so Hurley threw a chair through the window. I love the new, gutsier Hurley.
And Miles is out. With a radio. The Kahana folks want to talk. (I guess I’ll take to moment to admit it… Fine, I was wrong about Alex’s kidnapping being a Ben setup with the Others pulling the trigger. It is still possible that Ben is somehow pulling the strings to influence events, though.)
So Sayid did find Nadia, and married her, and now she’s dead. In Tikrit. On October 24, 2005. (I guess my theory about time as related to the ARG is completely whacked now, too.)
Who’s that guy that Ben’s snapping pictures of? Even as a pallbearer, Sayid knew Ben was there. Ben wants to help Sayid find the man who murdered Nadia. And he’s lying about how he got off the island, with Desmond’s boat. Desmond’s boat didn’t land him in the middle of the Sahara. And Nadia was murdered in Los Angeles.
Something Ben actually wasn’t prepared for. They have Alex as a hostage. Ben knows exactly who the captain is and what he’s capable of. Poor Alex. How in the world does Ben have this under control?
OMG, did he just kill Alex? ALEX? WHAT IS WITH ALL OF THIS DEATH?
“He changed the rules.” So Ben was pulling the strings. And now, with Alex dead because of him, he hopped into his little panic room and disappeared into some secret passageway that I can only assume is like the one from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
Sayid got his revenge, killing that man. But was it the man who really killed Nadia? Or Ben’s little patsy? “Once you let your grief become anger, it will never go away. I speak from experience.” He makes himself sound almost human.
This is where Sayid starts working for Ben. “This is my war.” “Benjamin, who’s next?” Oh, what a creepy smile. It’s what Ben wanted all along. I wouldn’t doubt that the man was a patsy.
Smokey! Smokey with lightning! And I think that it’s… feasting on the Kahana boys.
And Alex is really dead. There’s no miraculous recovery scene here.
The scary thing? If we thought Ben was bad before… now he has nothing to lose.
Back at the beach. Dan’s tapping Morse code to the Kahana. Bernard knows Morse code. I knew someone would understand! “What are you talking about? The doctor is fine.” And they were never going to rescue the castaways. Big surprise. We can only wonder how that changes.
So Ben does control the smoke monster, and Jacob can tell Locke all about it, because Hurley knows where the cabin is.
Sawyer’s taking Claire and Aaron back to the beach, and Miles is going with them. Hurley wants to go to the beach, but Locke wants him to stay to guide them to Jacob’s cabin.
“You harm as much as just one curly hair on his head, I’ll kill you.” Aww Sawyer, we didn’t know you cared.
And… Ben knows the way anyways.
Now Ben’s in London. To see Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick in Room E. With his special secret weapon in hand.
“Wake up, Charles.”
This is the sound of jaws dropping on floors.
Ben is going after Penny. He wants to take her away from Charles Widmore the way his (stolen) daughter was taken away from him.
Charles Widmore says that the island is his, always was, and always will be. But he doesn’t know how to find it. How does that work?
I half-expected to hear them discuss how to kill Superman.
I’m agog that we actually got given so much information tonight.
The Christiane I is the salvage ship that sent out the robots that found the fake wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815.
“How do you want your eggs, Dan?” I know it’s an unimportant line, but I just caught it, and I think it’s a little cute that Dan’s caretaker fixes him eggs.
Whoops. Did anyone else lose audio for a few lines when Dan first encountered Kate and Jack? It was a little bizarre. Maybe it was just my local affiliate.
And there’s Locke, enjoying the rain, as he is wont to do. His special connection with the island and whatnot. I wouldn’t be so happy, tromping around in wet clothes all the time, or worse, squishy shoes.
So far, I haven’t seen any new pop-up messages. I remember all of them from the first time the enhanced version aired. That’s disappointing. It would be nice to see something new.
As far as the confidentiality of the freighter’s mission
“Taller? As in a giant?” Hehe. Sawyer’s kinda funny when asking about Walt. I do wonder how they’re going to tie that in. I mean, they did use a Walt doppelganger for Michael’s scene in “Meet Kevin Johnson” where he waved to Walt in the window. They didn’t just use the same actor. They used someone who looked like the age Walt should’ve been in the storyline.
15 is the number of a football player on a poster in the room of the murdered grandson when Miles does his graverobbing bit. Just the numbers showing up as a little Easter egg. It’s just after 11:00 am, according to the clock.
Aww… Karl… “Keep your mouth shut, Mr. Linus.” Sniff. Enjoy your run on Broadway.
“You’re wasting your time, Yoda.” Yoda seems a misplaced Sawyer nickname at this point in time.
“Let’s execute him right here, right now, in front of his daughter.” Doh. Maybe if Sawyer had just followed through and ignored Locke, Alex’s boyfriend and mother would still be alive. Well, I’m not giving up on Danielle yet… I know she got shot, but I don’t think the island will let her die yet. Or the producers, or whatever.
Jack is such a bad winker.
How long in the desert would it take for a polar bear collar to show wear like that? Hmm. I wish I looked as good in shorts as Charlotte does.
One nice thing about repeats is that I can spare the time for silly superfluous thoughts like this.
Dan babbles on and spills “secrets” just like Hurley does. They share a little more freely than their more secretive cohorts.
I wonder how many calories you can burn running through the jungle as much as the castaways do. Filming these scenes with multiple takes has to be better than any diet or exercise program available to most of us. Hurley does appear to look slimmed down from the first season. I wonder how much weight Jorge Garcia has lost so far.
“We’re here because of you!” Charlotte appears to be quite friendly, but we know this to be a lie. Even Dan, who may just be the member of the team with the friendliest intentions, admitted that the survivors of Flight 815 are not their reason for being there. Well, Frank and Dan have pretty friendly intentions. Frank is relieving a bit of survivor’s guilt.
Naomi failed.
Why is Dan still wearing that flashy thing? He’s already a bit unstable. I’d think it might just be annoying enough to set him off.
Minkowski = spacetime. Well, that makes sense for his little consciousness time travel thing.
Sugh. Three weeks from tonight before we get a new one. Does that mean Eli Stone will have its season finale before then?
Wow, these scenes from “Previously on LOST…” are a real blast from the past!
There’s a motley crew. Claire, Aaron, Danielle, Karl, Alex, Kate, Ben, Hurley, Sawyer… then Sawyer parades Miles in, sans bomb in the mouth.
It’s exposition time! For everyone who hasn’t been paying attention for the past few weeks.
That alarm on the freighter sounds like the push the button alarm from the Swan. Yikes for Desmond!
Sayid to Michael: “Why are you here on this boat?”
Michael to Sayid: “I’m here to die.”
Um… what? That seems to easy to be the answer to the promo spot that said someone was going to die this week.
Ben told Alex that the people from the freighter are more dangerous than he is. Assuming he’s telling the truth, it might not be the truth we thought we heard. Maybe they’re more dangerous to him, and by extension, to Alex. Not necessarily to everyone else. I’m not sure if I buy the “they’re going to kill everyone else once they have me” bit. Although that would certainly be a reason for the Oceanic Six to have their cover story following the rescue.
SWOOSH! Flashback time.
We’re going way back. Wait, Michael’s accident was a suicide attempt? That sheds a new light on a lot of things.
Libby! I knew that sounded like her voice!
So this isn’t so far back as his accident pre-flight. Okay, verification that this is post-island. Walt is staying with his grandmother, and having nightmares. Michael was only missing for two months after the crash. No time variation there. Then again, I firmly believe that any time anomalies began after the fail-safe key was turned. And since they left the island shortly after that happened, there wouldn’t be too much of a difference.
Ramming his car into a dumpster didn’t work, so now he pawned Mr. Paik’s really expensive watch for a gun to shoot himself… and he was stopped by Tom. Whoa. How long after he left the island is this taking place? Because Tom was seen quite often on the island… telling Kate she wasn’t his type, needling Sawyer in the polar bear cage, fretting over Ben on the operating table… And he’s just there at the right moment, at just the right spot in New York City to stop Michael from shooting himself? He had an apropos greeting, too, asking Michael for the time right after he pawned the watch.
Tom’s got a mean right hook!
Oh man, Michael told Walt about Ana-Lucia and Libby. Father of the Year, I tell ya. (Sarcasm, in case you didn’t catch it.)
So the island won’t let Michael kill himself? So all on-island deaths are people who are “supposed” to die, then. And anyone who miraculously lives through something that should’ve been fatal… the island doesn’t want them to die. Yet. Because the island allowed Naomi to heal from her bail-out wounds, but not the stab wound. And Charlie got a number of reprieves before he finally died. (I should do an entry about all of the times Charlie almost died before he died.) Maybe that’s why Mikhail seems to have more lives than a cat - the island wasn’t done with him yet. But did he die his final death yet?
Ooh, timeline. Flight 815 was just “found” at the bottom of the ocean.
Arutro! That’s why Kate wasn’t his type! Some people called it when he first said it.
Tom says that Widmore planted the fake wreckage. Widmore’s freighter captain said that Ben planted it.
Eww! Graverobbing was the source of all of those dead bodies. Well, at least he didn’t kill people to come up with the bodies.
Who to believe? Did Ben plant the wreckage? Or did Widmore? I almost asked, “Or maybe they’re working together?” But then I realized how ridiculous that sounded. Widmore wouldn’t be searching for the island if he was working with Ben, because then he’d know how to get there.
So Michael is swabbing decks in order to kill everyone on board the freighter. And according to Miles, the people on the freighter arer there to get Ben and then kill everyone left on the island. This isn’t another Purge, this is a war. I’m beginning to think that the cover story the Oceanic Six are telling is covering up a horrible massacre - but will it be the castaways or Widmore’s people who die?
Fiji! Must be easier to fake Fiji when filming in Hawaii than it is to fake Manhattan.
Minkowski when he was still sane. Naomi has a crate that was delivered for “Kevin Johnson.” What has Ben shipped him? Miles knew that Michael’s name wasn’t Kevin. How? And does he suspect the truth? He can’t. Can he?
Naomi argued with Frank about who was going to go to the island first. Maybe it would’ve turned out better for Naomi if she’d let Frank go first.
Frank is a conspiracy nut, it seems. But not really, since he was totally right about the conspiracy, even if he has the details a little fuzzy about who’s responsible for it.
Michael’s hearing the whispers in the engine room of the freighter? And seeing Libby? Whoa. “NOT YET.” This is the island refusing to let him die. And there is definitely something supernatural about this.
“You going Nicholson on us?” The Shining. Hehe.
Walt called? Or is this Tom saying he’s Walt? Oh, Ben pretending he’s Walt.
Ben won’t kill innocent people? I think the members of DHARMA would disagree.
Huh. Ben wants Michael to make him a list. He’s big on lists. So Michael makes the list, and Michael is the saboteur that destroys the radio and the engine room.
Sayid blows Michael’s cover. Could this be the moment that Sayid realizes he screwed up and is later responsible for the deaths of many innocent people, and that’s why he ends up working for Ben off-island?
Oh my God. Karl’s dead. He did have a bad feeling about this. Ben was playing them. Why else would Karl and Danielle end up dead, but Alex is still alive? I would bet that Mikhail or one of Ben’s other cronies was the assassin.
I saw a commercial on ABC advertising some mobile phone episodes that will be available first to Verizon Wireless users, and then for the rest of us online.
While I am jonesing for a LOST fix, I don’t think I’m going to watch them. The WGA is on strike because the writers are not being paid for this “new media” content. So ABC is making money off of cell phone customers and off of their web advertisers, but the LOST writers are not being paid what they’re due.
So I’m boycotting them. Are you?
For something fun you can do while waiting for new LOST episodes to air, I decided to come up with a few fun word puzzles with a LOST theme. The easiest word puzzle to create is a word search like this one, especially since DiscoverySchool.com provides a free word search generator! I hope the formatting doesn’t get screwed up on this one!

One hour down, and seven Redshirt Others are dead. I don’t think they count in the “five people die” TV Guide spoiler. So five more people are going to bite the dust. Better not include Sawyer. There are five people down in the Looking Glass station right now… But I don’t know if they’d really kill off Charlie and Desmond.
Flashback to Jack popping his last pill in front of a coffin that looks far too small for no one to have showed up to the viewing. Why won’t they just tell us who died? Jack said he wasn’t friend or family. The fact that they won’t tell us who it is leads me to believe it’s a familiar face. But I can’t even begin to imagine who it might be.
I was wrong about Mikhail. He did follow orders. Good thing that Desmond found that spear gun. Sorry, Bonnie. Sorry, Greta. Can Mikhail cheat death one more time? Do the island’s healing powers extend underwater?
Oh my God. I don’t want to believe it. I will not believe that Sayid, Jin, and Bernard are dead until I see them for myself. Maybe we didn’t hear what we thought we heard over the radio. Please no. I don’t think Ben’s dead either, just beaten bloody unconscious.
Finally! Alex knows that Danielle is her mother. And Danielle kinda ruins the moment by making her first words to her daughter, “Will you help me tie him up?” Well, she’s been kinda out of the social graces loop for a while.
Ha! I knew it! I knew they didn’t kill them.
Wow! Hurley with the Dharma van. Sweet rescue! Look at all of these exclamation points!
I said that Tom probably wouldn’t survive the episode, since he’s the most loyal to Ben, about two seconds before Sawyer shot him. Sawyer’s taken quite a dark turn. My husband just agreed with me, saying, “Yeah, he’s in kind of a bad place right now.”
I can’t believe there’s only half an hour left of new LOST until next year. That totally sucks.
Take that, Ben! Even more of your people have turned against you.
Charlie turned off the yellow flashing light. I wonder what’s with the incoming transmission. Penny?
Oh Charlie… What a terrible way to die. But he died a hero, and he alerted Desmond to Naomi’s lie. For once, Ben wasn’t lying about something. Charlie’s death scene reminded me of both the scene in Armageddon right before the explosives go off and the scene in The X-Files where the Lone Gunmen seal themselves off to stop the biological agent.
*time passes as I can’t tear my eyes away from the TV*
So wait. If this was a flash forward instead of a flashback… Why does Jack say something about getting his father down to see if he’s drunker than he is? Was he just confused because of the drinking and the pills? And… I’m sorry, but what? I’m so confused right now. And I’m sure everyone else is, too. Time to go hit the fan boards to see what the hell everyone else thinks is going on.
