Would you like to make a Guest Post?

Uncharted Island is looking for guest posters! Do you have anything you’d like to share about LOST, Heroes, Pushing Daisies, or Eli Stone? It can be a theory, some fan art you’ve done, some random thoughts, or just a fangirl/fanboy gush over your favorite character. So many of us have blogs devoted to only one topic. If TV is not your topic, you can make a guest post here as your outlet!

Guest posters get to include a bio including their primary blog link and social media contact info at the end of their post(s). Comment if interested, and be sure to include your contact info!

Fan chatter on LOST: “Not in Portland”

If you’re not reading the LOST-TV forums, you’re missing out.  But I’d like to sum up some of the points that have been discussed in the new episode thread. It grows so quickly that it’s hard to keep track, and I find it much easier to put it all in one place!

Juliet’s last name was revealed when she was referred to as Dr. Burke.  Her ex-husband’s name was Edmund.  Edmund Burke is another famous philosopher’s name. (Thanks, SimonO.)

Forum user blondiejam found a link to http://www.mittelosbioscience.org/ - fake or real?  Hawksrule found the whois information, which was apparently filled out with fictional contact information (Richard Alpert, Mittelos Bioscience) to make it look real.  But as whois info is supposed to be real and verifiable, I think this points to being a fake.  It’s actually illegal to supply false contact information when registering domain names. ABC would not risk that.

“Mittelos” is an anagram for “time lost,” as pointed out by stephew and backed up by Entertainment Weekly. I still think it could also have something to do with Mittelwerk.

Dagolu informed us that the Ludovico Technique is what was being used on Karl in his cell. He postulates that Juliet and other island recruits may have been subjected to this technique, accounting for their creepiness and the blatant differences in Juliet’s behavior on-island and off.

Jacob was mentioned again, this time in Karl’s video montage. “God loves you like He loved Jacob.” Hawksrule points out Jacob’s Biblical history, that he was born as a gift to Isaac when Isaac’s wife was too old to have children.  Redneck once removed added that Rachel, the name of Juliet’s sister, was the name of one of Jacob’s wives in the Bible, and she was infertile.  She gave her handmaid to Jacob to bear him children in her place, which is where Margaret Atwood got her title for The Handmaid’s Tale, one of my favorite books of all time.  Biblical Rachel did eventually get pregnant and give birth to Joseph and Benjamin.  (I’ve now got a showtune stuck in my head. Joseph’s mother, she was quite my favorite wife, never really loved another all my life…)

Truffula, along with other forum users, also saw Gerald DeGroot in Karl’s montage - the same shot used in the Swan orientation video. Truffula also has some amazing screencaps from the episode in his blog.

Softlips suggested that maybe “the room” that Walt didn’t want to go to was Room 23, Karl’s cell.

Lostitute confirmed my suspicion, that the book being read by the Hydra guard, Aldo, was Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time.  Are they just taunting us about the possibility of time irregularities on the island? Or is this a clue?

Vonnegut mentioned that Apollo Candy was on the side of the bus that killed Juliet’s ex-husband Edmund.  Apollo Candy bars were found in the Swan hatch and were part of a real-world promotion during TLE (The LOST Experience).

Salspalden provided a screencap confirming that Rachel’s pregnancy test was Widmore brand.

Elsewhere on the web:

Only fools are enslaved by time and space.” Those are the words in the backwards message played to Karl in Room 23.  It’s suggested that the woman’s voice sounds like Bea Klugh.

The End of LOST?

No doom and gloom here, just speculation on how many seasons it will take to wrap up the loose ends on LOST

Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof were discussing a timeline to wrap up the show with the ABC network executives, although no specific end date has been set at this time.  As the E! Online article states:

“Once we figure out when that will be, a lot of the questions will go away,” said Cuse, adding that he didn’t want Lost to burn viewers’ goodwill and fail to adequately resolve the storylines, à la The X-Files.

So the good news is that they know what went wrong with The X-Files and don’t want to fall into the same trap, so they’re trying to do something about it.

The bad news is that they really have no idea how long it will take to tell the story while it’s still good.

The other good news is that season four will run all 22 episodes consecutively with no ridiculous winter hiatus like this year.  The flip side of that is the other bad news: 22 consecutive episodes means we’ll have to wait longer to get the new episodes, and we’ll have to go longer without seeing the show at all.  We’ll likely have to put up with double episodes of George Lopez for three months.  Ugh.

Where to find the LOST Action Figures

Did you get the new LOST action figures this holiday?  No?  Was there one or two you really wanted?  They may be rather difficult to find in stores.  You I found them online at SpencersOnline.com.

LOST Action FiguresIf you do a quick search for “LOST” on their homepage, you’ll find both The Hatch and the Lost Figure Assortment, which includes Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley, Charlie and Shannon.  I had no idea they would be available together for one price; I thought the price would be for each individual figure. I might just have to buy them now, after all! I’m most impressed with the figures of Locke and Charlie.  The Kate figure looks the least realistic to me - which is a real shame, because Evangeline Lilly is really gorgeous.  I mean, it’s not quite as bad as the old Star Wars Princess Leia figures that made Carrie Fisher look like she had a monkey face, but it’s still not a flattering look.  I suppose the guys will be happy with the bikini-clad Shannon figure; she looks rather well proportioned.

The Hatch set is pretty cool.  It does cost more than all six of the other figures combined, but it also shows four of them (Jack, Locke, Kate, and Hurley) staring down into the newly blown open hatch.

If you don’t have the cash to spend on yourself right now, you can always ask for them for Groundhog Day. Or Valentine’s Day.  Or something.

Wizard Entertainment interviews LOST’s Damon Lindelof

A fantastic interview with LOST co-creator Damon Lindelof is available from Wizard Entertainment.  Why should you read it?

Damon reveals what he feels the fall season accomplished, and I’m not sure I agree with the question he feels was answered satisfactorily.

He also spills some not-quite-spoilers about the upcoming season.  We’ll find out who the Others are and what they want. He explains why they killed off Mr. Eko.  He also explains that Nikki and Paulo do have a larger purpose in the story that just hasn’t be realized yet.  He mentions some incorrect thinking that we fans have about the Others, as well as some of the loose ends from season two and how they may or may not be tied up this season.  Damon does list some of the characters who will be getting flashbacks in the new episodes, as well.

LOST Moment - December 28, 2006

Catch the latest LOST Moment?

Basically, Tom tells Jack (in the operating room) that the only reason he’s still alive is because they need him to do the surgery.  Ahd he wants to know if it’s true that Juliet really told him to kill Ben.

Since we already saw a Moment with Jack in a cage, we know they don’t kill him straight away. This implies that Ben does survive the surgery.  Maybe he’s the one who decides that Jack should live, but in the cage.  I wonder what this will mean for Juliet.

A LOST YouTube music video I’d like to see

I have no video editing skills, but there a video montage I’d love to see set to music by someone who is talented in that area.

I think a Sawyer-centric video montage should be set to “Smooth Rider” from the album Stand Up by the Dave Matthews Band. The first time I heard the song, it made me think of Sawyer.  Of course, a good video might not be able to be pieced together until we have another new episode or two to pull material from, but I’m patient!  There should be a good Sawyer running scene or two coming up, if recent LOST moments are any indication.

Here are the lyrics from the official Dave Matthews Band website for anyone who might be interested in taking on the challenge.  (And if you do, please let me know!  I’ll give you a link!)

Last night
No way
I was gonna be left hungry
Then your daddy caught me sneakin’ out your bed
It’s just a game I play
It’s just a role I play
Don’t think, sweet baby
I’m messin’ with your head

I’m a smooth rider, baby
You know I just keep movin’ on
I don’t know why I like to carry on the way I do
it’s just that I’m in love with you

If see me out there runnin’
And you hear the sherriff’s comin’
Your daddy’s crazy with that gun in his hand
If you know they’re comin’ for me
And you know they’re running for me
You know my love won’t let them keep me away

I’m a smooth rider, baby
You know I just keep movin’ on
I don’t know why I like to carry on the way I do
it’s just that I’m in love with you
aawwww

If see me out there runnin’
And you hear the sherriff’s comin’
Your daddy’s crazy with that gun in his hand
If you know they’re comin for me
And you know they’re running for me
You know my love won’t let them keep me away
I’m a smooth rider, baby…..

Completing the LOST DVD set

Thanks to my husband, I am now the happy owner of Lost - The Complete First Season on DVD.  Having received Lost - The Complete Second Season as a surprise thank you gift from a friend and coworker, I now own all the LOST it’s possible to own at the present time.  Merry Christmas to me!

And with the dismal primetime lineup we’re being subjected to over this winter hiatus season - no Heroes, no LOST, no Jericho, no nothing! - I’m sure these DVDs, and others that were left under the Christmas tree, will get a lot of use.

LOST Moment that wasn’t on Daybreak

Did you catch the last LOST Moment? It may have been trickier this week since they pulled Daybreak from the schedule. It’s available online both in the official location and here, for those of us who are not American Express cardholders:

http://www.dharmasecrets.com/forum/index.php/topic,9155.msg93972.html#msg93972

If nothing else, we see that Pickett didn’t kill Sawyer before Kate ran for the beach.

LOST Moment on Daybreak - December 14, 2006

It was only about five seconds long, but we did see that Jack survives his attempt on Ben Linus’s life in the operating room, although he seems to have found his new home in a cage likely vacated by either Kate or Sawyer.

And Cindy is alive!  I wasn’t able to make out any of the other faces of the crowd outside the cage, but I’ll take a wild guess that most of them were taken from the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815.

Maybe we’ll finally learn why Cindy - the flight attendant who had a thing with Bad Twin author Gary Troup - disappeared on the hike from the Tailies camp back to the beach with the rest of the lostaways.  Speculation flew wildly when it happened.  Did the Others grab her while Sawyer was being hoisted up the cliff in the stretcher?  Or was Cindy in cahoots with the Others, deciding to rejoin her people before coming into contact with more of the plane crash survivors?
