Flash Forwards: The Lie
At the end of LOST season three, Jack told Kate that he was tired of lying.
Now, at the start of LOST season four, Hurley talks about lying, too.
What is the big lie? I don’t think it’s really that big of a mystery. I think that the lie is the price that they had to pay to leave the island. I don’t know if it was Oceanic’s lawyers or the Hanso Foundation or what… but the “Oceanic 6″ had to lie and say that they were the only six people who survived the plane crash at all. They had to lie and say that all of the chaos that they experienced on the island never happened. Well, by lying about it, I mean they can never mention any of it.
And that would be enough to drive anyone crazy, not being able to tell the truth about those months on the island with the monster and the Others and everything else. Of the three people we know to get rescued, only Kate seems to have been able to reconcile it in her mind.

Yes I agree. I’m pretty positive that the lie has to do with the number of people that survived the plane crash. They said it was only 6. But why would they say that? Is it because the ones left behind didn’t want to go with the Oceanic 6 (because of what John Locke said how Naomi’s people aren’t who they say they are). When Naomi tells them that they found the entire plane and that there were no survivors, at that point I started believing everyone on the island was dead. But then you cleared it up for me, and brought to my attention that the producers had actually made an official statement claiming that the characters were not dead. So who are Naomi’s people? hmmm that remains a mystery until the next episode. There was one individual who parachuted down onto the island near the end of the last episode. But it seems that it was a rescue team that came to get them because Jack, Kate, and Hurley are shown of the Island in the future flashes (leading one to believe that they were indeed rescued). Kate seems alright being back, but Jack and Hurley look like they want to go back.
